Peace4Kids (Misc)
Peace4Kids, Inc. is a nonprofit exchange program which places foreign students with loving, volunteer host families for one or two semesters while they attend local high schools. Students speak English and have medical insurance and spending money to cover the cost of personal items, school lunches, and entertainment. If you are interested in the Great Commission, but don't have the time or resources to travel to other countries, then set an extra plate at your table, prepare a bed and have lots of love for a student from a foreign country. You can participate in lifestyle evangelism in the comfort of your home. There is no pressure; just live your life and faith and let God handle the rest. As a bonus, you and your family will learn about another culture and gain a friend for life!Contact Heather Slinkard, Area Manager: 479-616-0621, ACTS5FAMILY@cox.net
Pacific Intercultural Exchange (Misc)
Learn firsthand about another culture without leaving the United States and establish a friendship that will last a lifetime. Many local high schools are still open to enrollment and encourage families to get involved. Pacific Intercultural Exchange has international students from more than 40 countries arriving into the area for homestay programs. They really need your help. The non-profit organization is looking for a few more caring host families to share the American way of life. If you think you may be interested in hosting a foreign teen -- or would like more information about the program -- please call P.I.E. immediately at 1-800-828-9001 or visit them on the web at pieusa.org.
Darren Sisemore Fund (Fundraiser)
Darren Sisemore, 26, of Rogers might rightfully wonder, “Why me?”The last decade could be likened to a bad dream from which he hopefully might awaken, smile back at a handsome face in the mirror and realize that the terrible tumor and the years of chronic infection in his face had been but an illusion. What a life he’s lived since age 12 when his left nostril began to close shut. By 16, both nostrils had become sealed. He also worried about the bulge in his left cheek and his shifting teeth. One doctor diagnosed a sinus infection and prescribed an ineffective over-the-counter nasal spray. Another physician, a specialist, ordered a CT scan and told Sisemore about the tumor they’d found in his sinus.
