I noticed him across the room. He was cute, funny, and- working for a non-profit that provides medical care to sick children around the world in the name of Jesus. Be still my heart.
We've learned all kinds of things on the Drive Home this week. Personally, I learned that when spicy food decides to attack your taste buds without warning, ICE-CREAM is the answer. Come to think of it, ice-cream is the answer to a lot of things. But that's a subject for another day.
It was three o’clock in the morning when my wife woke me up.
“It’s time to go to the birthing center.”
“What? Like, right now?” (In my defense, it was a week before my wife’s due date.)
“Yes, now. Things are getting serious.”
She wasn’t wrong. Our second daughter, Arwyn, was born just a couple hours later.
It's "What We Learned Friday" here at the Drive-Home. The part of the show where we talk about all the amazing things we learned this week!
My cat woke me from a nap on Sunday to present me with a gift. A very un-dead mouse. Apparently he thought I needed a hunting lesson. Here's the rest of the story...
It's "What We Learned Friday" here at the Drive-Home, an aptly-named tradition wherein we review all the things we've learned on the show this week!
You'd think that if you took two good things and combined them, you'd end up with an even better thing. It's a good theory, but it doesn't always work out that way. Case in point: KFC has apparently released a new sunscreen to keep you from getting fried, but there's a catch. It smells like fried chicken. Sunscreen is good. Fried chicken is good. But fried chicken sunscreen? Here's our thoughts on the subject.
I stood in the make-up aisle, tossing things into my cart with abandon, long after I checked the 2 things off my list I actually came for. I lay in bed that night wondering, “What was that about?”
Somewhere in the back of my mind I knew the answer. This weekend is the wedding...
Just over a year ago, I read the headline and was shocked. He was gone. Robin Williams, the man I had grown up laughing with. The man who brought joy to so many people. The man with gifts most of us could only dream of possessing. The man who spent years beating back the depression waging a war inside him. I was reminded of the loss again yesterday, Suicide Prevention Day...
I have a friend who marks the passing of the year by two things. Either "Christmas is coming,” or (when Christmas is over and we are sad,) “the days are getting longer.” It has become an unspoken tradition between us to send each other notes marking the coming and going of these seasons. Reminding each other of the good that has been, and the good that is yet to come.
My friend and I just sat there while the credits rolled and the theater emptied, trying somehow to stop the tears that had been flowing, well… since the opening credits. It took some serious effort. And some chocolate. Eventually we got up and left, occasionally mumbling something like, "Wow," and, "you do realize we paid money for that experience?"
Even before I could read the words for myself or understand the intricacies of character development and plot devices, I've been obsessed with stories.
The Disney kind. The made up bed-time kind. The pulled from my own imagination kind.
Basically… all the kinds...
