Last week my wife and I had the gift of spending a few days exploring Savannah, Georgia. We saw incredible homes built in the 1800’s, walked down roads that have been around a few centuries, ate some delicious southern cuisine; but my favorite memory by far was our stroll down Jones street (or strolls I should say). Jones street is a breath-taking neighborhood filled beautiful homes, but none of those structures compare to the beauty of the canopy created by tress that have lines those streets for decades. I can imagine that even on the hottest July day, that canopy provides protection from the worst of a Savannah summer.
I keep thinking that’s exactly how God wants me to live, knowing that even when the heat gets turned up in life, He promises to be our shelter.
In this week’s words of hope, Psalm 91:1 reminds us that “those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.” We may not be able to take a stroll down beautiful Jones street today, but whatever path God has in store this week, you and I get to rest under a canopy of steadfast love, unexplainable peace, and faithful protection!
