From Broken to Brave

Ten years ago I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia, a chronic pain disorder. My children were 2 and 4 at the time. Every day has been hard since then as I force one foot to move forward, then the next, moving slowly step by step. I searched and searched for resources to help me be a godly wife and mother to my children, but I found very little. One book to help you cope with chronic illness was all I found. I only knew one other person who had chronic illness, but she was God's gift to me.

Another gift God has given me is the music of KLRC. I have a playlist of songs from KLRC that helps me get going in the morning, another one that helps me when I need to find joy, another playlist for when I need courage, and another one for just praising the Lord.

Life is so hard with chronic illness and pain, and I wanted to help others with chronic illness. I started a blog called God-Living with Chronic Illness, because by this time there were a lot of resources for living well with chronic illness, but very little for how to "God-live" well with chronic illness. I wrote about how I dealt with the loneliness, anxiety, depression, grief, and many other aspects of chronic illness. Then I decided to do an online Bible study with a couple of friends. Through word-of-mouth, we grew from 3 ladies to 50, then a year-and-a-half later, we have over 350 ladies, sharing life together by God's grace. God-Living Girls with chronic illness was born.

Now, I think of chronic illness as a gift from God. It has given me a heart for others, a strength that comes from God alone, and a beautiful ministry of serving God by helping others with chronic illness. Now I actually find myself thanking God for the gift of chronic illness. I have realized that God is there for me, and He will be there for you, too, no matter what you are dealing with, no matter who you are, or how bad you think you have messed up.

God loves you, and He wants to take your broken and turn it into brave. Just like He did with me. He can do it for you, too, dear child of God.
