Wow. We’re so blown away by what God did through YOU this week during KLRC’s Fall Fundraiser!
If you haven’t heard, we ended just before 9:00am on Thursday – a full 9 hours ahead of schedule! As of Thursday afternoon, your pledges totaled $326,126. Not only is KLRC now fully funded through March, but 189 kids in our area are going to receive new shoes and socks through the ministry of Samaritan’s Feet!
It’s Day 2 of fundraising and we have so much to celebrate already! So many great volunteers, so many great stories, and a really encouraging response all day long!
Did you get to meet Ariana (the sweet little girl with the big smile running around the phone room with the bubble gun)? Ariana models joy in a lot ways. Not just because bubbles are fun (and we all know they are!), but because she knows something else about joy. Ariana's mom has been teaching her about budgeting and putting some money aside for giving, saving, and and for fun.
After much prayer and many hours invested in the budget process this past spring, we determined the listener portion of our budget for 2016 to be $1,110,000.
We anticipated the need to hold two on-air fundraisers to reach our annual listener budget need. The first, KLRC’s Spring Sharathon 2016, happened last March. Our goal for that event was $790,000, and thanks to the generosity of KLRC listeners, we ended up meeting that goal! That leaves us with a funding need this fall of about $320,000.
Shoes. Something most of us take for granted every day. Something that in my house can honestly be a nuisance. The fact is, I don’t have enough room in my closet for all of my shoes. And then there’s the size 12 sneakers my 16 year old boy leaves laying around the house that I trip over at least a few times a day.
It’s hard to believe that something most of us have in excess is the very thing that can change the life of a child. It’s also hard to believe that right here in our community almost 3,000 school aged children were in need of shoes to start this school year.
Our theme for 2016 is “BE ONE,” reflecting our passion to live as one community focused on God and being used by Him to share hope in Jesus and make a positive difference!
As part of our kick-off to the Fall Fundraiser, we are spending Monday focused on prayer.
"I just remember him saying, 'Mom, please, can I give some money? Because I love KLRC. They do such great things and they need to stay on the air so people can hear them!' And so that sweet little boy added up all the money that he had, and it came to like 7 dollars and 63 cents. But it was every penny that he had."
This is a story about Joshua and his heart. His mom told me how this same heart that moved him to give everything he had at age 8, grew even more confident and generous as he grew older.
“Cherish every moment. Live every day to the fullest. Laugh daily.” I could probably conclude this post with just those three wise statements recently shared with us by Renae. But to fully understand the significance of those words, you need to know more about her story.
Renae wrote to us a few weeks ago to share that her family has been fighting some pretty big battles. “My oldest son, Shawn, was diagnosed with large B-cell lymphoma of the spine. We have always trusted God’s plan for our lives, but now we are living that plan. Knowing His ways are better, we fully trusted that God would do what was best for my son.”
This morning 8 year old Emma was listening to KLRC when she heard that Jack had called to give $10 of his birthday money. Emma and her brother Paxton went to mom and said, “We want to give too!” A little bit later Emma, her mom, and her brothers brought their giving jars to KLRC. Emma said that she wanted to give to KLRC because she loves singing and dancing along to the music and she wanted to help.
I was standing in the KLRC lobby when Patty walked in the door. She was shaking and had tears streaming down her face. I had no idea why she was so emotional, but Cheri did.
You can celebrate a special person or occasion through your support of KLRC!
Maybe you’ve heard the announcements celebrating holidays, birthdays, anniversaries or loved ones? Those announcements are a great way to celebrate a special occasion while also supporting this ministry in a big way!
