On my nephew’s first birthday, his mom pulled out a shiny can. It was a time capsule to be filled with letters and mementos.
Last year, my nephew turned 18. His mom pulled out the now-dented can with its faded label. For the next hour there was lots of laughter, but also tears as Jason read through letters from loved ones no longer here on earth.
As I listened, it was a reminder of how much and how quickly things can change.
James 4:14 reminds us that, "We don’t even know what will happen tomorrow."
So today is the day. Let’s create a time capsule in the heart of our loved ones by offering words they’ll always treasure. A kind word. Or an "I love you!" when it's least expected. Don't hesitate to say them, because right now is the best time you're sure to have.
Are there words you wished you had spoken in the last 10 years, but didn't? Consider the next 24 hours as your next window of opportunity. Speak an encouraging or kind word to a loved one.
Job 8:9, "For we are only of yesterday and know nothing, Because our days on earth are as a shadow." (NASB)
