Hearing that you child has been diagnosed with a life-threatening illness is one of the hardest things a parent can face. In one moment life completely changes for the whole family. Hospitals and therapy and pharmacies become the new normal.
We’ve all known a family who has faced this issue and wondered what we can do to help. That’s exactly where Make a Wish comes in. Since 1980 Make a Wish has been helping kids see their dreams come true. Esther and the crew at Make a Wish Northwest Arkansas have made it possible for more than 40 kids a year to have their biggest wishes granted thanks to a community who comes together to rally around a family and put some really big smiles on some kid’s faces.
Last spring I had the opportunity to meet some wish kids and wish families. Their stories were all completely different… different diagnosis, different ages, different wishes… but they all had one thing in common: joy! Each wish kid and each family member of a wish kid lit up with joy when I asked them about their wish experience.
Living with a life-threatening illness doesn’t leave room for a lot of moments of joy, but through Make a Wish families are creating memories that will last them a lifetime.
We’d love to have you check out some of the things the local Make a Wish office has going on. There’s lots of ways you can partner with them to help make wishes come true. And if you know a kid who’s facing a life-threatening illness you can nominate them for a wish!
